New adventures...

Dash and I took a trip down to Sublette Co. yesterday and went ice skating while my sled was getting worked on.  So cool to have a lake entirely to ourselves.  It was only about -20 out.

Skating...

Pretty sweet and unusual way for us to start Thanksgiving morning!  We got up and made an almost sunrise skate session happen.  Fun to skate on frozen lakes we swim in during the summer months.  Proud of Dash for learning to skate and having a great attitude aBout it.

We want our body's back!

The sport of broomball certainly goes against all logic.  Running around on ice when its below zero.  Broomball is with out a doubt, the most sore muscle causing activity we seems to do.  The season just wrapped up this week and while I am sad to see it go, on the other hand, if I dont play another minute of broomball until December, I will be ok with that!
Our beloved team, D and E Cabinets had another amazingly stellar run this year in the playoffs after a very pedestrian regular season.  D and E turned it on in February.  We lost our first playoff game and it looked like it was going to be an early exit from the playoffs with the double elimination format.  Ohh wait....., no so.  WE then ripped off 5 wins in a row, all of which with tons of pizzaz and style, and then made it all the way to the city championship.  The championship was on Wednesday night, we gave it a good run, but eventually lost 3-1 to the team that won it all last year.

Socializing after a massive win over the arch rival "Bloodshots" in the semifinals.

Until next winter Broomball....

Broomball reigns supreme

Yet another season of punishment is in full swing. Broomball has taken over. Twice a week we brave below zero temps because running around on ice without skates seems like a good idea.

The challenge is to keep the beer warm enough so it doesn't turn into slush.

The ice is different every game. Sometimes you can actually get a bit of grip, most of the time it is slicker than snot.

The proud, the mighty, the strong, the gifted, the magical, its.........D and E Cabinets. This motley crew is sitting at 5-1 this year going into the Christmas break. We made it to the city championship last year only to loose by a goal to a bunch of Vermonter's (The 802's). Our ragtag outfit has no uniforms, we have no cheers, we have the oldest player in the league, and damn it, we are good!

Almost

Last night was our last broomball game of the season and no small feat for a little team from the rec league, it was the competitive league championship! Yep, we made it all the way to the final to face off with the reigning competitive league champs from the year before, "The 802"....

Of course a blizzard arrived in Jackson a couple hours before the game was going to start and coated the super slick ice with a couple inches. Here is our team clearing it up to make the rink playable . There was not a ton of ice to be had once the snow was cleared though and it turned into more of a track meet with some random slick spots that had everyone with there feet above their heads at one point or another!

We ended up losing 2-1, booooo. But it was a really good game and everyone played their hearts out with half of Jackson, a keg and a grill on the sidelines.

Here is our team right after our game in the only picture we have together from the whole season. Nice work guys and girls, now we actually have time to heal some bruises and pulled muscles....until next year!

Year 4

Broomball is back and we are killing it! We have won the rec league the past few years, so we decided to move up to competitive. We had a game last night and one tonight and we now have 2 wins...off to a good start for sure!

There we are scrambling around on the ice in tennis shoes. They set up the ice rink in the rodeo grounds every winter so we can be under the lights.

There I am antsy and cheering from the sidelines (in pink)...the rules are you have to have 2 girls in at all times and 4 guys. Then you run around (or try to) on ice and hit a ball that looks like a mini-soccer ball with a rubber mallet and try to score. Not so easy, but very fun!

BroomBall And Taking No Prisoners

Where are all the fans at?

Our mighty team, D & E Cabinets....!

Given that both Chels and I are pretty competitive people, we got into Broomball a handful of winters ago and are pretty much addicted now. We play every Tues and Thurs from Dec until the playoffs end in the middle of Feb. Our team is already worried that we might not be there for the playoffs which will be during the Olympics in Feb! D & E Cabinets is our proud team. We won the city league two years ago and finished second last season. So far we are 8-1 this year and will be taking the #1 seed into the playoffs which start next week.

Kudos to the refs who are out there every night in below zero weather with nothing but beers to keep them company.

This is what a broomball stick looks like.

You play without hockey skates, just tennis shoes on the ice, so, it takes a reasonable amount of skill to navigate around and stay upright.

Walking back to the trucks victorious.

Wish us luck in the playoffs!
