D.C. Whirlwind

Saturday morning, Trev's sister, Sarah, gave us a little tour around Baltimore where she has been living for the past year attending grad school at Johns Hopkins. She drove us through some rough neighborhoods and got to see her cute apartment before we all booked it to D.C.

Our first stop was Arlington Cemetery, an amazing and sobering place.

Sarah took off back to Baltimore, as the books were calling, so Trev and I continued to do some touring by ourselves before the wedding began. Here, some dark brooding clouds add a cool backdrop to the Washington Monument.

Idaho pride.
The fairly new WWII Memorial.

Of course, I am sure you can all recognize this one.

Late night wedding didn't start til 7pm. Check out this huge organ in St. Matthews Cathedral!

Whoa, hot stuff!

This is where the ceremony was held, the St. Regis Hotel.

I have to admit, it was a little weird only knowing ONE person, (that being Aidan O'Connor, the groom and Trev's good buddy from Teton Valley Ranch Camp) at the wedding.

The wedding went until 1:30am, but we knew we had a huge day of being tourists on Sunday, so we got up at a decent time and started our day on foot...first checking out the White House, then heading to the wedding brunch at Old Ebbitts Grill right next door. Next stop, the Portrait Museum.

Our favorite part of the Portrait Museum was the Hip Hop display.

How beautiful is this pic of the Capitol? It was raining off and on all day, but loved the drama it created for the pics.

We couldn't get any closer to the Capitol Building than this...it was closed in preparation for the Presidential Inauguration, already.

Next door to the Capitol, we checked out the Botanic Gardens and then the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum which were both amazing. Nice purse Trev.

No pics from the Holocaust Museum, which was one of our faves. Unfortunately we only had a little over an hour there before it closed...we felt like we could have easily spent 3-4 hours soaking it all in. Next stop the Jefferson Memorial...here I am on the steps with the Washington Monument in the background.

At the end of the day we walked to the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, soaking it up in the dusk, and then back to the friends house we were staying at...on VERY sore feet. I think it was about a 10 mile day in the flip flops. We topped the night off with some great Indian food and the shuttle picked us up for the airport at 3:15am.

Now that is what I call an amazing whirlwind weekend!
