Weekends Rule...

I wish life was one perpetual weekend...... I guess that's what happens when you retire! Well, I am only 28.5 years away from snowmobiling, skiing, golfing, and fishing all the time I guess....
Shot of Tim looking toward the Teton's on Friday after we got off work (one less day until retirement!).

No matter how many sunsets you catch of the Tetons, it never gets old seeing another one.

The annual sled dog races were in town Friday night with the start of the big race that goes from Jackson all the way down to Park City, UT.

Fired up dogs..

Lucky Me

Do you ever have that feeling that you are lucky to be where you are at that moment and you can do nothing but smile and soak it all in? Well that is how I felt being here yesterday.

It was a beautiful sunny day and I got out to make some turns on my new tele set-up (that is causing me endless frustration because it is not anything like the gear I had been using for the last 6 years!) But I couldn't help but smile and breathe in the fresh air when I was out here and it made me feel pretty lucky to live in a gorgeous place I love.

Soak it all in and be grateful for this day.

That was Bogus

This weekend I drove to Bogus Basin, a ski area outside of Boise, Idaho for some ski races with the kids I coach. It is a 6 hour drive away which was not all that fun! I didn't get a ton of pics because I guess I ended up being busier than I thought, but here are a couple random shots...

From the condo to the race hill in the morning, the sky was on fire!

Girls in a pile. I guess this could also just as aptly be named kids being kids.

The pink glow on the hill behind our condo, the hill was not that exciting, but the color was pretty.

Weekend of Sleddin...

Chels was gone all weekend in Boise for ski races. I of course used this as an excuse to do nothing but sled all weekend long. The winter keeps on being awesome with good, consistent dumps.
We rode up out of Alpine, WY and the Greys River network for a big 80 mile ride on Saturday. As we were crusing up the timber along Murfey Creek we saw this nice, big bull elk.

Sunday we went and explored a new location that I had been wanting to scope for years. Not that anyone actually looks at this blog for snowmobiling locations, but where we went on Sunday was awesome enough that I am going to withhold the exact locations. Suffice to say it is close to town, has awesome views of the Tetons, the terrain was amazing, and we didn't see anyone else around sledding for miles..

Above Tim managed to find a creek bed and was in deep. When you get in a pickle like this one, you can only hope that your 500lb machine is pointing downhill!

After spending tons of time playing in the meadows, we throttled up and topped out on this ridge that, despite the grey day, gave us amazing views of the Tetons, Yellowstone Plateau, Wind Rivers, Gros Ventures, et.

Finding and exploring new terrain on the sled is awesome!

Astounding....

Didier Cuche managed to take his 4th title this weekend in Kitzbuhel, Austria on the famed Hahnekamm downhill track. Not only did he win for the 4th time, he managed to make it look easy (if that is possible on that track), winning by almost a full second over Bode. Congrats to Didier, all at the ripe age of 36!

Time to Apply

It is that time of year again...... yep, time to start thinking about summer, shirts off, fish rising, and river trips.... This year the crew is talking about doing a trip to the Grand Ronde in Oregon in June and of course, the obligatory trip to the Smith River in Montana in July.

Rolfe, Nate, and Teddy on the Party Barge without a care in the world. Smith, summer 2010.

Applying is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to organizing for an extended day river trip.

Smith River posse 2010. Hopefully all the rest of these foo's come back for the Grand Ronde 2011 and a bunch more sign on too.

Paradise...... Really stoked to get all my river buds together once again not once, but twice this upcoming summer.

Huge Congrats

(Photo stolen, no, actually just borrowed from Anna Goodman)

This is a little belated, but just wanted to give a huge congrats to Anna on her 14th place finish in the Flachau slalom last week. Not a bad comeback season girl! Nice work. You have to check out her ripping race run on her blog HERE!

Days getting longer....

Sorry about the delay in blogs to everyone. Both Chels and I have been super sick on and off the past 10 days.
These are some shots from snowmobiling after work (yes, I love that each and every day now is getting longer) last week with my sled bud, Tim.
We both got out of work and hustled out to the trailhead near Kelly, WY to Shadow Mountain and got some riding in before and after the sunset.

Laying Low

We have had a bit of a break in the action around here this past week as both of us have been feeling under the weather. A more normal thing for me, but I hardly ever see Trevor sick and he definitely doesn't deal with it very well.

Luckily he has Stevie to help take care of him.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Dawn Patrol

Here is a short video we made with Trevor's new GoPro camera he got for Christmas (thanks Rob & Linda!) It definitely gives a cool skier's-eye point of view. This is one of his morning skis last week down Teton Pass before work, check it out...

Fantasy Beat Down

Steve Nyman of the US Ski Team and his brother created a way of "playing" fantasy ski racing much like just about every other major sports in the U.S. has been doing for a long time this year for the World Cup. Both the Men's and Women's "White Circus" is represented. Essentially you pick the top 10 skiers for each event and weight is added toward the podium finishes (places 1-3). Luckily, my desk job has been invaluable for keeping up to date with all the many races and trying to make solid picks.
Ski racing is about the only sport that I religiously follow (although I do love the Seahawks.....awesome win today....! and also the Mariners), so, it has been fun putting my knowledge to the test against other passionate ski racing fans across the country and also the world. It has caught on with legions of fans and World Cup athletes are also playing fantasy ski racing.
Perhaps more than any other fantasy sport, ski racing has so many variables when trying to pick....weather, wax, conditions, past history on the course, start positions, injuries, et...

Anyhow, I had a banner day today and got a 2nd place (overall) with my pick of a women's downhill in Switzerland, picking the entire podium correctly and most of the top 10. This result shot me to the top 25 in the overall rankings of which there are close to 1000 people playing now. So stoked.

In Deep

Chels took this awesome shot from last weekend snowmobiling up Granite Canyon. It was really fun throwing novice sledders on the front of the sled and letting them experience face shots on something other than their accustomed mode of normally getting face shots, skis......!

Cheese Grater

So this is my brother with a "cheese-grater" face, as he would like to describe it.

As most of you probably heard, Marco had a huge crash in the downhill training run in Bormio, Italy last week. He ended up skiing away from the crash, but was later found, standing on the side of the course "spectating", without a clue that there was even a race going on or where he was! Luckily, someone found him and got him to the bottom of the course where they got him into a helicopter and flew him to the nearest hospital. They found bleeding on his brain and had him under observation for a couple days before getting him an escorted flight back home to the States.

Marco and his girlfriend, Anna Goodman in Austria before he flew home.

Besides his face, he is doing well, but not sure when he will be released to be back on snow. He can't work-out, ski or do anything active that would get his heart-rate up and they have even warned him to try not to use his brain a lot...very little reading, tv watching, writing, etc. Ugghhh, poor guy, but at least he is ok!
Thanks for everyone's concern and well-wishes, it meant a lot.

Starting the year off right!

On January 1st, we started the year off with an awesome day of snowmobiling with Keelan & Meri and Liz & Kenyon up to Granite Hot Springs.

Keelan and Meri looking stoked with Kenyon and Trev talking shop in the background.

Trev took everyone on rides to show them how much fun the pow really is on a snowmobile. Trevor getting Meri some face shots on the front of his ride.

There was a rainbow around the sun all day....good luck for the new year?

Trev showing Liz what's up!

Liz looking like she owns it.

Kee and Meri and pretty backdrop.

At the end of the road, me and Trev and Keelan and Meri crossed the river to get to hot springs while Liz and Kenyon went to the other pools. Here is Keelan in fine form, of course he is opening champagne with his jorts on, why wouldn't he?

Starting our year off right with tunes and bagels and champagne and our own private hot pool under the waterfall....ahhhh, loving life!

Then we had to walk back to the sleds...

Owww...hurry, hurry!!!

A beautiful end to an amazing day. Thanks for visiting guys....no one else we would have rather rung in the new year with! Love you guys!
