Slow Times...

It doesn't happen very often living in a place like Jackson, but sometimes it's really nice to have a "relaxing" weekend and not feel obligated to get out and do as much stuff as humanly possible on the weekend. We chilled this weekend here in Jackson. I find November to be the hardest month of all 12 here in Jackson simply because it is a really "in-between" month as far as outdoor activities are concerned. Too early for good skiing/snowmobiling, too late for fishing/floating, et....

Town is always really quiet in November though. Saturday we went for a hike up behind our place.

It has been really unseasonably warm the past couple of weeks. Been in a never ending rut of fog hanging in the valley floor like a bad habit until the early afternoon before burning off.

Chels trying to will the fog away on our way up "Josie's Ridge"

Home.

The sun finally came out. Don't be fooled by my wife's continual overdressing! She is "cold blooded". It actually reached to 60 degrees on Saturday in Jackson in November. Wow...

This is the launch point on the top of Snow King Ski Area for paragliders. As you can see, Snow King needs a bit more snow before they can think about opening, although, they have started to blow snow out of the snowmaking machines.

Mom, this picture is for you!!! We finally put the "Yak-trax" to use. No longer are we white knuckling down the perpetually frozen, rock hard, and really sketchy northerly facing aspects of Snow King on the way down. Chain tires on your feet are a thing of beauty!

Last of the City

One of the nights we ventured out to Brooklyn and took in a show (Persephone starring Julia Stiles) at the BAM theater. It wasn't our favorite show ever, but the theater itself was really cool.

Well, we were pretty lame on Halloween when it comes to costumes! We didn't really have room for them in our luggage flying out so we decided not to dress up. Bad idea!! It seemed like all of NYC was dressed up. My buddy Aidan who used to live in NYC and now lives in Washington D.C. was in town for the weekend masquerading as "Goose" from Top Gun.

NYC subway system at 4 am on the night of Halloween is something to behold.

What trip to NYC isn't complete without a stop off in Central Park?

The last day we were there my sister recommended a jaunt to a little known park (Ft. Tyron) up near her neighborhood, around 191st street. It was deserted compared to Central Park and every bit as beautiful!

I guess I could have been a ghost for Halloween?

Until next time NYC.......

NYC awesomeness

When we got in to the city we went to a bar to watch one of the Giants World Series games and of course we were the only ones in the bar remotely interested in the actual game. With a bucket of beer we got a raffle ticket and Lucky Trev won one of the two prizes...a NY Giants football jersey!!! As you can see here, he was really excited, but for some odd reason I was trying to get him to wear it around the city the rest of the weekend and he wouldn't...weird.

Waiting at Sarah's subway stop...we were camped out in her Harlem hood way up on the Upper West-side for the weekend. I have to say, the MRT (subway) in Taiwan was a million times nicer than NYC's, big surprise.
Rat count...
Taiwan after one year = 0
New York City in 4 days = 4

Us and a seagull checking out the Statue of Liberty from afar.

And we thought we were getting far away from home...this was a weird one.
No, we did not eat there.

MOMA is all those things and you will be too when you go there.

Sarah showing us around the Columbia University campus, a little haven inside the city, where is is getting her masters in Nursing...smarty pants.

This was probably my favorite excursion of the trip, the Bodies Exhibit. If anyone has the chance you should definitely go see it, it was soooo fascinating! Real bodies are preserved and different systems are displayed...muscles, nerves, arteries, bones, circulatory system, you name it. So amazing to see your insides this way.

We Heart NY

We just got back tonight from a really cool long weekend trip to NYC. It is such an amazingly fun place to visit when you are coming from a town that has as many residents as one of NYC's city blocks. We scored all kinds of fun things that are pretty tough to find here in western Wyoming!
My sister is living, working, and going to school right now in NYC, so, that was the main catalyst for visiting and it was great to see and hang with her.

Chels entering into the subway in Harlem.

The obligatory stop off in Times Square. We managed a healthy dose of touristy type of activities, and then also a bunch that were kinda locals only recommendations and way off the normal tourist beat.

We went up the Empire State Building the last time were were in NYC (04), so, we just took pictures of it this time. Although the NYC marathon is next weekend, we honestly walked close to a half marathon pretty much everyday that we were there!

Me, emerging from the depths of the underground on the subway somewhere at a station in "mid-town" .

Up 1 game to 0 !

I was over in Worland the last couple of days for work. We finally got our first big storm of the year. This shot was yesterday going over Togwotee Pass on the Continental Divide. The pimpin state issue rig was a little squirly. Some reports from the Teton snowplots were up to 40" of the fresh stuff.

Stevie, along with others in the house are pretty pumped with the Giants taking a 1 game to 0 lead in the World Series.....

We fly out to NYC tomorrow starting a long weekend search for a culture injection.

Snow!

We woke up yesterday to our first snow...

What the heck, not this stuff again!

I think it is the end for these little guys.

That strange season where you see boats and yellow leaves and snow all together.

The colors looked so pretty!

End of Summer?

It has been one hell of a good summer filled with all kinds of floating and camping. The weather has officially turned to less than spectacular this weekend. Never one to let a bit of inclement weather slow us down, Me, Teddy, and Case went over to the S. Fork of the Snake in Idaho and squeezed in one last camping, float, overnight trip for the season.

Teddy taking the waders off after a cold late afternoon/evening float.
We camped right on the beach.

Case tending to the brats.

The weather was downright rugged for both days. We didn't get snowed on, but had more than our fair share of rain.

We got out of the rain for a few minutes in this cave and made sandwiches.

The fishing wasn't spectacular, but we did catch a few fish between rain squalls.

Brrrrrr..............
